Seagoing experience and qualifications
1957 to 1971 British and Commonwealth Shipping Company, Ltd.
1971 to 1989 Frequent seagoing secondments to various merchant shipping companies, this consisting of sea-going experience, from Cadet to Master, in various ship types and trades, to most areas of the world.
1989 to 1994 Training voyages in Solomon Islands Government  fleet.
   
Academic experience
1971 to 1989 Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Marine Studies, Plymouth Polytechnic, now University of Plymouth, U.K., which deals with all marine areas including maritime transportation, hydrographic surveying, fisheries and aquaculture, offshore exploration and exploitation, meteorology, oceanography and estuarine studies.
